Over 20+ years overall cybersecurity experience, with deep understanding of Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Operations Technology (OT) security and the industry as a whole, Ron’s background is working out in the field: onsite at the power generation, offshore oil, refineries and everything else that makes the things critical to humanity. I've had to navigate the industry's unique challenges, both culturally and technologically and developed the ability to effectively communicate both technical and business concepts to a wide breadth of audiences.
Early on, Ron led control system threat assessments that tied tactical vulnerability data, potential attack vectors with current threat actors in a way that brought context to the overload of vulnerability chaos. Starting his career as a computer network defender in the U.S. Air Force, Ron performed numerous cyber security missions for the Air Force Pentagon Communications Agency, Missile Defense Agency and NORAD.
After the military Ron held many roles performing NERC CIP, NIST, and NEI 08-09 assessments for multiple customers. Interesting field work was performed as Lead Penetration Tester for Industrial Control Systems at Lockheed Martin, performing hundreds of vulnerability assessments, penetration tests and threat assessments against live production systems in the electric and oil & gas sectors. He and his team conducted effective and safe onsite assessments around the world with zero incidents or injuries.
